Does goat’s milk contain probiotics?Updated 2 days ago
No — our goat’s milk powder does not contain live probiotics. Because it’s dried using a spray dryer, any natural probiotics present in fresh goat’s milk do not survive the process.
What it does contain:
- Prebiotics: Goat’s milk is naturally rich in oligosaccharides (a type of carbohydrate) that act as food for beneficial gut bacteria.
- Enzymes: These can help support digestion and nutrient absorption.
- Vitamins & minerals: Including calcium, potassium, and vitamin A to support growth, bones, and overall wellbeing.
- Healthy fats & proteins: Easier to digest than cow’s milk for most dogs and cats.
So what’s the difference?
- Probiotics = live bacteria added to a product to directly populate the gut.
- Prebiotics (like those in goat’s milk) = fibres and compounds that nourish the existing good bacteria already living in your pet’s gut.
Even without probiotics, goat’s milk powder helps create the right environment for a healthy gut by feeding good bacteria and supporting balanced digestion. If you want to add probiotics, you can pair goat’s milk with a dedicated probiotic supplement.
